Competency Evaluations: Dr. Wachtel has been conducting competency to stand trial evaluations since 2005. He has evaluated over 200 individuals and has been hired to perform initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and second opinions. He stays current with training and report writing issues in this area. Mitigating Evidence: If you have a client who has pleaded guilty and you are wondering if the judge might take into consideration his/her mental state during sentencing, Dr. Wachtel may be able to help. He has worked with attorneys to clarify questions of mental illness and mental status and has provided reports to the court for sentencing hearings. He cannot always provide you with the information you would ideally want, but he will always tell you the truth.

Medical Records Reviews: Do you have a pile of medical records from mental health providers or from neurologists or neuropsychologists, and you cannott make sense of them? Dr. Wachtel has helped both the prosecution and defense in this area, and has been instrumental in helping attorneys understand medical records in a way that has aided in cross examination, sentencing, plea bargaining, and at trial. Psychological Assessment: Dr. Wachtel is an expert in the areas of cognitive and personality assessment. A large part of his practice is devoted to administering, scoring and interpreting psychological tests, and he has taught personality and cognitive assessment classes to graduate students as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver since 2001. You will not find a psychologist in Denver more knowledgeable in this area than Dr. Wachtel. Civil Litigation Evaluations: Dr. Wachtel has knowledge of applicable case law and can help provide you with valuable information about your client to maximize the potential of a positive outcome. He has worked for both the defendant and the plaintiff. As with mitigating evidence, Dr. Wachtel cannot guarantee that he will discover information helpful to your case. In many instances, he finds information that is not valuable at all, and in some instances, he will inform you that the information he has gathered is potentially harmful for your client. He is not a hired gun, and he will not merely tell you what you want to hear. He stakes his reputation on being reliable, honest and ethical. If you are looking for someone to provide you with whatever opinion you desire, you should hire someone else. Advisory Counsel/Witness: Dr. Wachtel has experience in acting as an advisor to attorneys in matters related to mental health and cognitive functioning. Cross Examination Preparation: Dr. Wachtel can help you prepare an effective cross examination of the expert psychologist/psychiatrist hired by opposing counsel. Most mental health professionals have very little experience testifying as experts and Dr. Wachtel can help you to maximize your questioning to ensure the court hears all of the pertinent information. |
